Over the last few years much has changed in healthcare. Because we have been naturally overwhelmed by pandemic news, newly published research on the importance of the oral gateway microbiome in systemic health was scarcely noticed. In addition, oral health professionals found that our preventive care protocols needed substantial updating. Many patients had significant dental issues during the “lock-down” and our practices are still catching up on delayed dental treatment. Fortunately, improved dental biological materials that are kind to the pulp, with the potential to stimulate reparative dentin by providing calcium ions and an alkaline environment, are commercially available. In addition, bulk fill resin based composite restorative increase dentists’ efficiency and improve clinical outcomes. Universal adhesives provide for consistent and reliable bond strengths.
