What are the first things that a dentist should plan on as the opening date gets nearer and nearer? Well, there seems to be a lot to think about, and even more to do than you think. Planning will be key because to get ready to re-open, takes time. We have to insure that our offices are state of the art, especially in protecting not only our patients, but ourselves and our team members. As for our patients, they don’t want to be exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, NOR ANY OTHER DISEASES! Everyone is now very aware of disease spread, and they have all seen the reports stating that a dental office can be a “dangerous place”. Our team members may also be afraid, especially the dental assistants and hygienists. And we are all experiencing the hesitancy of certain team members to return to work. According to marketing surveys, the majority of patients also report that they are hesitant to return to dental offices. So we will need to thoroughly communicate all of our efforts to provide the best and safest environment possible using social media. Unfortunately, many people no longer read e-mails as we have become inundated with sales pitches, and texting will soon follow suit. Our “new” office has to be obviously clean, with HEPA filters visible in the reception room, air purifiers in the operatories and much, much more. Perhaps, the “jury is still out” on air purifiers, but they sure look good to the patients. And making the all out effort to protect in any way possible, patients and team, is SO important.
